I was cruising down Kennedy Blvd. late for an appointment but determined to find a drive-through to get my morning java. The only place I saw was a Krispy Kreme. I don’t like Krispy Kreme so I pulled into The Flying Pan and hoped it would be quick. It was. The coffee was good and something about the place intrigued me. They have an open kitchen so while waiting for my coffee I watched the cooks making crepes and wished I had time to sit down and eat. I made a mental note to come back one day for breakfast. Well I returned about 2 weeks ago. I love this place and will go back more often. They specialize in omelets, crepes and paninis, both sweet and savory.
The interior has a a cool vibe. The menus are on enlarged stands and although we got there after breakfast were told we could order anything from any menu. You go to the back to place your order and pay. They give you one of those electronic thingys that light up and vibrate when your order is ready. It is self seating but staff is roaming around to help you or answer any questions if you have some. You get your own beverage and I had a good sweet black tea whose name I can’t remember. Once my thingy lit up I got my Flyin’ BLT which was made with bacon, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and dijonnaise. It had a nice little kick from the dijonnaisee but the cooling avocado gave it a nice balance. Like some restaurants that over serve, this was just enough and if you did need a box you could get it yourself as they are stacked right next to the condiments. No need to wait for a server because you already paid.
Every order that I saw a customer walk by with looked delicious and I can’t wait to go back and try the crepes or paninis. My only complaint is if it is a full house, and it was that day, it can be some tight maneuvering going back and forth to refill your drink or get condiments. However, the vibe was hip, the patrons were young and old and the prices were reasonable. I highly recommend giving this place a shot for breakfast or brunch.
